Deadline reports that the 21-year-old former Big Time Rush and The Vampire Diaries actress was just cast in the upcoming pilot, Oxygen.
Oxygen centers on Emery (Aimee Teegarden), a teen girl who falls in love with an alien boy, one of nine of his kind integrated into a suburban high school. Malese will play Julia, a sick girl who loses all hope, but may get a second chance at life due to the aliens.
Also joining the project: Titus Makin Jr. who will play Emery’s goofy and cute best friend. You might remember him from Another Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song with Lucy Hale.

Game of Your Life synopsis: Industrious gamer Zach Taylor (Makin) lands a prized scholarship to the prestigious Digital Institute for Game Design (DIGD) — and sees his future break wide open. The opportunity to study under gaming legend Marcus Bentton and alongside the country’s most creative minds could propel him into a successful career as a video game designer. That is, if he can pass the infamous freshman project at DIGD that eliminates more than half of the class within the first three months.
Zach is teamed with brilliant yet socially awkward teammates Phillip (Kress) and Donald (Adam Cagley), and the trio persuades Sara Ramirez (Dana De La Garza) – a determined and striking team leader who shares a history with Zach — to join their team.
Working off-campus in the high-tech Lincoln Alley loft, the four set out to involve the entire campus in a quirky new social interactive game. But as the group becomes entrenched in the project, Zach learns that his father Billy, a widower, is facing growing financial woes at home.

Mickey O’Malley (Makin) is a fast-talkin charmer who befriends newcomer, Luke Morgan (Freddie Stroma). He’s Luke’s front man, weeding out the wanna-bes from the gonna-bes as everyone vies for Luke’s attention at his new school.
Angela (Wanlim) is Katie’s (Lucy Hale) best friend and a dancer in the Performing Arts Department. She’s a “criminally limber,” loyal and encouraging, and she knows that Katie is a dynamite singer — determined to help her realize her dream.
