'Andi Mack' Star Lilan Bowden Urges Disney To Speak Out Opposing 'Don't Say Gay' Bill

Lilan Bowden is one of many current and former Disney employees to speak out against the company amid it’s stance on the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill in Florida.
The former Andi Mack star took to Twitter to support a Disney LGBT animation writer in wanting the company to take a stand against the bill.

“I LOVED being a part of a Disney Channel show known for featuring gay characters AND storylines! The ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill will be DETRIMENTAL to LGBTQIA+ kids. I’m with @benjaminJS, hoping the company or more ppl in the company take action against this hateful bill. #DisneySayGay,” Lilan shared on her account.
“I witnessed in real time when Disney (or really @JoshuaRush ) literally said ‘gay’ on Andi Mack, let’s do it now when our rights are under attack. #DisneySayGay,” she continued.
Lilan then confirmed that she herself identifies as bisexual, after coming out last year.

Lilan‘s tweets come just hours after a letter was revealed from Disney CEO Bob Chapek, which he wrote to staff members, where he addresses the company’s response to the bill and their donations to legislators who support the bill.

Being queer is SO normal! But when you’re in a society constantly saying it’s wrong, I guess we hide from even our own selves. To those still hiding: we are normal and awesome and we have incredible value. As Buffy said to Cyrus: You’ve always been weird, but you’re no different.
