Disney+ Debuts First Look at Upcoming Series 'American Born Chinese' From Shang-Chi's Destin Daniel Cretton

Disney+ is offering fans a first look at it’s new series American Born Chinese!

The series was picked up back in October 2021 from Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton.

For those who don’t know, the new show is based on the graphic novel “American Born Chinese” by Gene Luen Yang.

Daniel, along with producers Kelvin Yu and Melvin Mar, author Gene, and stars of the show Ben Wang (Jin Wang), Michelle Yeoh (Guanyin), Ke Huy Quan (Freddy Wong) and Daniel Wu (Sun Wukong “The Monkey King”) attended the 2022 D23 Expo where they shared the first look featurette and talked about the series.

American Born Chinese will premiere on Disney+ in 2023 and tells the story of Jin Wang, an average teenager juggling his high school social life with his home life. When he meets a new student on the first day of the school year, even more worlds collide as Jin is unwittingly entangled in a battle of Chinese mythological gods.

Also starring in the show are Yeo Yann Yann as Christine Wang, Chin Han as Simon Wang, Jimmy Liu as Wei-Chen and Sydney Taylor as Amelia.
