'Dear Evan Hansen' Alums Jordan Fisher & Gaten Matarazzo Join 'Sweeny Todd' Broadway Revival

Jordan Fisher and Gaten Matarazzo have joined the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street!

The two actors both starred in Dear Evan Hansen this year, though at different times, and will be among the stars of the new revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical, Broadway World reports.

Gaten simply wrote, “🩸 🪒 🥧,” while also tagging his new co-stars.

Jordan has been cast in the role of Anthony, while Gaten will play Tobias. Also in the cast are Josh Groban as Sweeney Todd, Annaleigh Ashford as Mrs Lovett, Ruthie Ann Miles as Beggar Woman, Maria Bilbao as Johanna, Jamie Jackson as Judge Turpin, John Rapson as Beadle Bamford, Nicholas Christopher as Pirelli / Standby for Sweeney Todd, and Jeanna de Waal as Standby for Mrs. Lovett and Beggar Woman.

Sweeney Todd “tells the tale of a resourceful pie shop owner and a vengeful barber out for blood. After he’s sent away by a corrupt judge, Sweeney returns to London years later seeking his long-lost family, and forms an unlikely partnership with Mrs. Lovett, who serves up pies underneath his former shop. Together, they wreak havoc on Fleet Street and serve up the hottest – and most unsettling – pies in London.”

Hamilton‘s Thomas Kail will direct, with performances beginning February 26, 2023 and an opening night set for March 26th, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Recently, Jordan‘s 4*Town song “Nobody Like U” from Turning Red was nominated for a Grammy. He also has two more musical movies in the works – Spellbound and Something Here.
