The 21-year-old Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger actress opened up with the glossy about her close-knit, but long distance friendships, plus about playing Tandy on the Freeform show.
“It’s a big challenge in its own, for sure, but my friends and I make it work,” Olivia shared of her long distance friendships. “I’m not the only busy one in my circle, my friends are all busy doing really amazing things, so we all find and make the time to see each other whenever we can.”
She added that “this industry is filled with so much competition. Always trust your instincts when letting people into your circle, because you never know what [their] agendas are.”
Olivia also spoke about playing Tandy and the things she loves the most about her.
“She’s not just one note, which I love about her, but she also has a very cynical side, which is sometimes a very challenging head space to be in, for me as a individual,” she says. “But Tandy beats to the rhythm of her own drum and there is something so unique about that.”
The 21-year-old actress stopped by Seventeen‘s offices to take the magazine’s lyric challenge for a new video posted Monday (May 13).
The Cloak & Dagger star sat down for a pop quiz on the lyrics of early aughts hits like Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl,” Kelly Clarkson’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” and Rihanna’s “SOS.” Olivia didn’t totally ace the test, but she still proved her music fandom.
Olivia recently revealed to Town & Country that she plans to take a break from acting following Season 2 of her Freeform series.
“I always need some sort of break to decompress, especially after a show like this which can be exhausting physically and emotionally,” she said. “But I like to keep busy. Right now, I’m focusing on music and putting acting on the side for a bit. I’ve been away for months filming, putting my energy into that work, so now I want to put the same focus into music and not rush it.”
Sofia Carson poses with her co-stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish while arriving at the 2019 ABC Walt Disney Television Upfronts held at Tavern on the Green on Tuesday night (May 14) in New York City.

“Oh man, it left me completely speechless,” she said. “I think this is by far the best Marvel movie, hands down. A lot of people are just going to be blown away by the storytelling and the action and just the characters all together. I left the theater feeling a million emotions, and I think everyone is going to be feeling the same.”
“I grew up a Marvel fan, so it’s actually kind of crazy and full circle and surreal how I’m now working with the company and being part of the family,” she continued. “But I am. I grew up going to see the movies, and now I’m sort of trying to inch my way into the TV shows. I think what’s really cool about this particular universe is that they all sort of coincide. We’ve mentioned on Cloak & Dagger some of the other characters from the other shows and vice versa. So I love that there’s a way to intertwine all of these characters and their universes together.”
On a possible crossover with Hulu’s Runaways, Olivia added, “Runaways and Cloak & Dagger cross over in the comics, so I feel like it only makes sense for us to do it in the TV realm. But we’ll see. I think it’d be really fun. It also makes sense because we’re all in the same realm of age, and I think it’d be cool to see all the kids together.”
Cloak & Dagger airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
