'Andi Mack' To Tackle Gun Safety In Special Episodes This Season

Andi Mack has tackled a lot of important issues over the course of three seasons – but now its’ about to tackle gun safety in two special upcoming episodes.

The two-ep story arc was developed under the consultancy of the child development experts at The Brady Center and Hollywood, Health & Society, a program of the USC Annenberg Norman Lear Center.

The episodes include a public service announcement about gun safety, airing Friday, November 16th and November 30th on Disney Channel.

The storyline illustrates peer pressure and a true test of character for Cyrus (Joshua Rush) when T.J. (Luke Mullen) and his group of friends unexpectedly invite Cyrus to join their unsupervised target practice.

VP of Current Series at Disney Channels Worldwide, Kory Lunsford, said that the episode was “inspired by a tragedy that occurred in the family of one of the series writers and, with thoughtful care and expertise, the entire Andi Mack team delivered a story that can provide a means for kids, their families and teachers to open the lines of communication about peer pressure and the dangers of unsupervised guns.”

Creator Terri Minsky added, “Our show is meant to entertain kids, yet we also want to help them make sense of a very complicated world, to make them feel safe and confident to talk to parents and trusted adults about gun safety.”

While we love focusing on the relationships on Andi Mack – with Andi and Jonah, and the Good Hair Crew – one relationship we’re looking forward to seeing is Andi’s relationship with the other half of her family.

Peyton Elizabeth Lee recently opened up about that storyline heading our way in the current season three.

“I think Andi has this ideal version of what her family looks like,” Peyton shared. “That’s changed so much from season 1 to season 2 and now to season 3. At the beginning, it was Andi, CeCe, and Pops. Season 2 it was Andi and Bex and Bowie. In season 3, I think you’re going to start to see that she knows what she wants, but doesn’t quiet know how to achieve that goal.”

She continued, “I think that she sort of thinks she knows what she wants, but as life goes on, she realizes that sometimes things aren’t exactly what you want them to be but they can still be really great.”

Peyton adds that Andi will also be meeting the other side of her family — Bowie’s family soon. “I feel like there’s this sort of hazy area with her family.”

“She knows Bex and Bex’s family, but now there’s this sort of area in her heritage in who she is that she doesn’t know about, so as she starts to sort of figure out that side of her family, she realizes how much they really have made her who she is.”

Andi Mack will move to Fridays, starting THIS WEEK, on November 2nd, on Disney Channel.

There are only a few more days until Peyton Elizabeth Lee is back on our TV screens as the titular Andi Mack!

In a brand new interview, the 14-year-old actress opened up about what fans can expect from the new season and the important issues the series is still tackling.

“I think fans can really appreciate our first episode and really the whole season because you are seeing our characters grow and mature into the people they were always destined to become,” Peyton shared.

She adds, “To see them grow as individuals but also see how their relationships grow and the dynamics between them evolve…that’s something I appreciate and take from the show and I hope fans do as well.”

As for the important topics that Andi Mack is known for tackling head on, season three isn’t going to shy away from the important ones.

“I am just excited to continue to see Andi find her voice and learn how to use it. In the beginning she had been finding her voice,” Peyton says. “In season three we’re going to get to see her using that voice. That’s been really fun for me to work on.”

She continued, “We incorporate social causes and things that are important to get kids exposed to. It’s not like ‘Here is what you should learn, kids.’ You’re learning in a fun and interesting way.”

Andi Mack returns on Monday, October 8th on Disney Channel.
