Tangled's Donna Murphy Joins 'Gossip Girl' Revival As Headmistress

Tangled's Donna Murphy Joins 'Gossip Girl' Revival As Headmistress

The Gossip Girl revival series has gained another Broadway great!

It was recently announced that Donna Murphy has been cast in the new HBO Max series as the school’s headmistress, showrunner Joshua Safran confirmed to OK! Magazine.

Donna has quite the extensive resume, from Broadway to film and television. She is also the voice of Mother Gothel in the Disney film Tangled, as well as the spinoff series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure!

He also told the publication that they are trying to have cameos in every episode of the show, which is set to have 12 episodes in it’s first season.

“There’s a fashion event in the pilot, so there are fashion cameos, there’s a charity event in episode 2,” he revealed. “There’s a very big cameo in episode three. Big, to me! Luckily that cameo happens to be in New York — we just lucked out — and, frankly, we haven’t shot it yet, so for all I know that cameo could leave New York, and it would be difficult.”

Joshua shared that it’s a little difficult to just bring anyone in with COVID safety protocols and restrictions, so it’s easier to cast special appearances if someone is already in New York.

He’s also hoping to get a big music star – “There’s a big musical artist [planned to be] in one of the episodes; we are hoping that is possible.”
