DNCE's Joe Jonas Says It's a Great Time for Pop Music

Joe Jonas is on the cover of TMRW magazine‘s new issue with his DNCE bandmates and he opens up about why it’s a great time for pop music right now.

Here is what the 27-year-old singer shared with the mag:

On creating music that makes people happy: “What we try and do is create stuff that’ll put a smile on people’s face, there’s so much crazy stuff going on in the world these days – we like to be able to hopefully take you out of that and give you some happiness for the hour and half that we’re playing. Cake was kind of like the launching pad for us, it was our introducing song to the world. It was just the wackiest idea that we could have come up with, so everything from there is kind of just easy for us. It’s more simple, and free, and wild. I think if we can do that, we can do anything else. Create what we want to create.”

On pop being at its best today: “We grew up listening to Michael Jackson – we’ve always loved pop music. But I agree that it’s a great time for pop now. There’s a lot of good stuff out there and we want to be part of that.”

Joe Jonas just proved he’s one of the best uncles ever!

The 27-year-old DNCE front man revealed the super sweet thing he does for his nieces Alena and Valentina while he’s on tour while co-hosting Live With Kelly on Wednesday (November 23).

“Every city we go to, I try to get them a stuffed animal…so I have two suitcases and one is just filled with stuffed animals at this point. But their faces when they get them, it’s quite beautiful,” he explained.

Aw! How cute is that?

DNCE Have Played Concerts in Some Bizarre Places!

DNCE have toured all across the globe and have ended up playing concerts in some pretty weird places!

The group – Joe Jonas, Cole Whittle, Jack Lawless and JinJoo Lee – spilled on the most bizarre place they’d ever played during a Twitter Q&A session with iHeartRadio.

“The closing ceremonies of a biathlon in Norway…outside…in the winter…while it snowed,” the group wrote.

The night before, DNCE played in a more normal setting on The Tonight Show, where they performed their latest single “Body Moves.”

Joe Jonas & DNCE Try to Showcase Their Best Selves On Stage

Joe Jonas & DNCE Try to Showcase Their Best Selves On Stage

Joe Jonas cozies up with his DNCE band mates – Cole Whittle, Jack Lawless and JinJoo Lee – on the cover of Client Magazine‘s issue #16, available November 18th.

The group opened up about their writing process, being an artists and having total control over the music they make. Check it:

Joe, on having control over the music they create: “It’s 1000% control. We control pretty much everything we come up with and we really get to collaborate and try to come up with fun ideas. When we’re performing live, it’s really fun for us to really let loose and come up with a full show that makes DNCE the best version of ourselves whether it’s wild and crazy or it’s a song that reminds us of our childhood, we try to showcase that on stage.”

Joe, on the writing process: “The writing process is different every time. There’s moments where I’ve written songs by myself for this upcoming album, there’s been times where we’ve all been in the same room and collaborated and it’s been just one guitar chord or a bass line and it kind of grows and grows until we have something that feels like it’s unique, and then we get into the studio and try to put it together.’

Cole, on the difference between an artist and a celebrity: “I think the difference between an ‘artist’ and a ‘celebrity’ is that some people are both, some people are neither, but I think it’s an amazing ying and yang win when people find themselves being both. Being an artist that’s being recognized at a level in pop culture in the universe for their art. So I think the difference can be like an empty trash can or a beautiful garden.”
