The film follows Bianca (Whitman), a content high school senior whose world is shattered when she learns the student body knows her as ‘The DUFF’ (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her prettier, more popular friends.
Now, despite the words of caution from her favorite teacher (Ken Jeong), she puts aside the potential distraction of her crush and enlists Wesley (Amell), a slick but charming jock, to help reinvent herself.
To save her senior year from turning into a total disaster, Bianca must find the confidence to overthrow the school’s ruthless label maker Madison (Bella Thorne) and remind everyone that no matter what people look or act like, we are all someone’s DUFF.

“No spoilers, but all I’ve ever wanted for [Amber] is a full life and I’m just so glad,” Mae said. “Honestly, anything that would have happened, I would have been happy with because it would have been an ending. So often in TV shows, you don’t get to say good-bye, you don’t get a proper send-off, and just the idea there was something where I could know, This was her life. This is the life she will be living, I just feel really lucky we got to say a proper good-bye.”
