Lyrica Okano Talks The Future of Karolina & Nico on 'The Runaways': 'It Gets Complicated'

Lyrica Okano is spilling new details about what’s ahead on Marvel’s Runaways for Karolina and Nico.

Chatting with Collider in a group interview, the 24-year-old actress says that season two, now airing on Hulu, picks up with the two “discovering what it’s like to be in a relationship with each other.”

Lyrica adds that “it gets complicated, at times, especially if you’re in a group of runaways together. In a mansion that’s underneath a hill, somewhere in Griffith Park. Things get tough, but Nico and Karolina they have a lot of love for each other, and I’m excited for [the fans] to see their journey together. It’s quite beautiful.”

Rhenzy Feliz Reveals Alex Will Be Separated From The Group in 'Runaways' Season 2

Rhenzy Feliz Reveals Alex Will Be Separated From The Group in 'Runaways' Season 2

Marvel’s Runaways is only days away from premiering its’ new season on Hulu and Rhenzy Feliz is giving us new teasers about the what’s happening with the kids, particularly for his character, Alex.

The new season, premiering on Friday, December 21st, finds the kids living off the streets and Alex will be learning a hard lesson in life.

“He no longer has the luxuries that he once had. He can’t do the things that he did from that comfortable place,” Rhenzy shared with TV Guide. “He’s sort of grown up in this Brentwood, rich lifestyle for his entire life. And for him to get to see the other side how people live? It’s the same world, same city, but you drive 10 minutes and you’re in a completely different part of town.”

He adds, “So for him to get to see that up close and personal and see that they’re still people — these are still people who are living lives, it’s just that they aren’t as fortunate. They aren’t as privileged as you are to grow up the way that you did.”

“It’s sort of humbling for him to see that,” Rhenzy continues, “and I think it even adds more to that disdain that he has for his parents. I think that’s sort of going to drive him through the second season. That search for justice that we saw in the first season.”

Alex will also be separated from the group for a short time, but he’ll be making new friends along the way.

“That also kind of changes the way he thinks about things and where he puts his priorities. You’ll see how that unfolds.”

It’s up to them to take down PRIDE once and for all. But someone sent a mysterious message to Jonah… Is there a mole in the Runaways? Meanwhile PRIDE is focused on finding their children, and Jonah has his own dangerous plan in mind.

Also starring Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, and Allegra Acosta, the series returns on December 21st on Hulu.

Nico & Karolina's Relationship Is The 'Emotional Core' of 'Marvel’s Runaways' Season 2

When Marvel’s Runaways aired its first season finale, we all saw the start of Nico and Karolina’s relationship.

Now, with season two, which returns on December 21st to Hulu, their new relationship will be the “emotional core” of the season, co-showrunner Josh Schwartz shared with TVLine.

“They both sort of declared themselves to each other,” co-showrunner Stephanie Savage added, “and now they’re in a situation where they’re living without their parents but they’re living with the rest of the runways in the same house — which is a pretty quick advancement of a new relationship for young people.”

She adds, “They’re going to be struggling not just with trying to save the world, but how to have an appropriate teenage relationship in such an adult situation.”

Season two will pick up almost immediately where the first season left off, with the runaway teens now on their own, taking refuge in an underground hostel, and having to fend for themselves.
