She really puts too much filler in her face. Makes her look 40.

  • Jane

    ew no! She annoys me.

  • Nonono

    I do not approve.

  • Maris

I agree with everyone else on here. NO!
Whatever happened to Mae Whitman? She’s perfect!

  • Kendall

    @mac: Jealous much…

  • Lori

I’m really gonna miss Secret Life, they air their last season next month. I’ve watched every episode, but it’s been 5 years. The show has run it’s course, I think Shailene is a very talented actress and if given a chance I think she could do great things with this character. I’ve never read the book, but now I think I just might go buy it so I can compare.

  • Christine

  • Kristy

She is a great actress but pretty much the opposite of who I would expectto play Hazel. I really hope they don’t destroy one of the best works of fiction.

  • ??????? ????????

I’ll sum up all the comments above and say: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Why world is so cruel to us?

  • ?

Maybe she’ll be good, we have no clue. If John says yhe likes shailinne than sure! but nothing is set in stone yet.

  • MIA

    I agree
Why don’t they cast an unknown. I do not want to associate this movie with anything Secret Life.

  • God no

maybe they’ll see all our comments and reconsider this casting choice cause this is just bad.

  • mma

No! No! No! She’s already going to ruin Divergent don’t let her ruin this too.

  • Meli

    NOO noo

  • Mhm.

I think having the leads be played by unknowns would make this movie better.

  • Bec

Oh My God NO!!! Just No.

  • Sam

  • Ddul

    Please, please no!!!

  • lolaaaa

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHY? NO JUST NO. she needs to stop being cast as every single female character I love . First Trish now Hazel ? THIS IS NOT OK.

  • morganlalalalalalalalalalalall

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO PLEASE NO. Probably THE worst choice ever.

  • ME

NOOOOOO!!! She’ll attract people who didn’t read the book and think its actually like whatever Hollywood turns it into.

  • ultimatehungergamesnerd

First she’s cast as Tris in DIvergent and now she might be Hazel in the TFioS, she better be a good actress. Plus she doesn’t really look 16 (Not that JLaw did either)

I don’t think Shailene is a very good choice and a very unlikely one, I mean, she’s already going to play Tris in Divergent.

I think that unknowns should have a chance at the role of Hazel, and if you’re with me, or just curious, check out! It’s a nonprofit website full of really awesome and talent, yet undiscovered, actors/actresses who want a chance. UBC focuses on providing fresh faces for book to film adaptions, including The Fault in Our Stars, along with other books like Maximum Ride, Legend, GONE, and Witch and Wizard. If your interested, or even if your the tiniest bit not uninterested, check out User Based Casting! You won’t be disapointed!

noooooooo! she doesn’t look young :(

  • rajah

NO!!!!!!!! She already is the lead in one book adaptation in divergent, let someone else get it and i think the actress should be unknown for Hazel.

  • Mollyfaye

I am not a fan of this, however I will hold back judgment until I see the movie. I have never seen her as Hazel. Not even a little. Someone along the longs of Mae Whitman…or me would do! ;)

  • i

She would be perfect . I agree completely. If she gets this role i will definitely watch the movie. for those of you who are saying no, your opinion doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t affect the casting directors in away way so you can complain all you want if she does get the role, but nothing will happen.

  • Taylor

I think she would play a good Hazel. I refuse to hold any judgment against her because then I will walk into the movie with preconceived notions about the movie being horrid and then it will end up being horrid.
I love this book and I’m sure I’ll like the movie.

  • Emily

NO!!! Absolutely not!!! She already the lead in Divergent, which I’m not thrilled about. No way can she ruin this movie too!!!!

  • Eafled

Nope. Nope. No. I don’t think she’d fit this roll. My judgement may be preconceived and biased, but I really believe and want this movie to be almost as amazing as the book. I don’t think she would fit Hazel.

  • Eafled

Nope. Nope. No. I don’t think she’d fit this roll. My judgement may be preconceived and biased, but I really believe and want this movie to be almost as amazing as the book. I don’t think she would fit Hazel. I retain my belief that Mae Whitman would be quite good, though.

  • Annoyed with this article

If you haven’t read it, hush.

  • Roo

figures :P hollywood wants to turn an underground(ish) phenomenon into its own spawn and produce it with some annoying “big-time” TV star…. Should’ve gone with a more indie actress. But whatever, just my opinion.

  • kate

what the actual fuck. you were a teen mom on the secret life of an american teenager. what the fuck you do know about being a cancer child. so my thought of this was NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE. maybe taissa farmiga but not shailene whatever the hell her name is.

  • http://Facebook Casey

    @Kristy: I know right?!

  • Ashley J

Seriously, both of the actresses trying out for the role of Hazel have no similarities according to how she is described to look like in the novel. If John Green chooses either of them I will be extremely disappointed. The best choice for an actress for Hazel could just end up being an unknown, actual cancer survivor. That alone would attract people for the right reasons and would justify Hazel’s appearance, her experiences, and just everything about her. Never go for Hollywood picks, ones that are gorgeous with pounds of make up, choose an actress or actor that you feel fits the part, attitude, appearance, and experience wise. Make up does not make a girl pretty. It’s your book, John Green, and don’t let Hollywood be the deciding party in it, whether you have a good, well known, gorgeous in all the wring ways actress. If she doesn’t fit the part by your standards, then you must step forward and actually try to pick a decent actress for the amazing characters in your novel, and make sure they are represented correctly in your eyes, not others.

  • Rhonda

I can’t wait to see this movie! Shailene is a brilliant actress and will play this part perfectly!
