Pentatonix Pulled A Lot of Influence From Lauryn Hill & Tori Kelly For Original Album
Pentatonix all gather together for a fun group shot during their meet and greet event held at Planet Hollywood Times Square on Tuesday night (October 20) in New York City.
The group – Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kevin Olusola, Mitch Grassi, and Kirstie Maldonado — were celebrating the release of their brand new, original album and JJJ still can’t stop playing it.
“The material on this album is a little more personal. It comes directly from us. That definitely inspired a little more intensity,” Mitch shared in a recent interview.
He added, “What we’ve done, nobody else has done. The material and music we’ve created is so unique, especially nowadays. We stand a good chance. We pulled [influences] from so many different people. The funny thing is, I feel like we pulled a lot of influence from either ’90s singers (like Lauryn Hill) or people who are imitating her, like Tori Kelly. We also pull a lot from the alternative folk-rock like Imagine Dragons. We are all so in all these different musical genres. The culmination of all of our influences and interests makes for a really unique sound.”
