'Divergent' Final Film 'Ascendant' To Skip Big Screen; Head To Television Instead

The final film in the Divergent film series, Ascendant, will not be making it’s big screen debut at all, according to Variety.

According to the trade, the film which stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort and more will wrap up with a television movie and a spinoff series instead.

Lionsgate plans to “wrap up the film series on the small screen, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation. That would then segue into a standalone television series set in the same post-apocalyptic world.”

Shooting on Ascendant was planned for this summer in Atlanta, however, the box office performance of Allegiant has caused the studio to re-think the decision.

For the television wrap up, “the idea is to finalize the storylines involving the current cast and to introduce a new cast, who would then continue the series on either a traditional or streaming network.”
