Rupert Grint Owes $1.3 Million After Tax Refund Case

Rupert Grint just lost $1.3 million, after a tax refund case didn’t rule in his favor, according to E! News.

The 27-year-old Harry Potter star will have to pay the heavy fee after a judge ruled that Rupert and his financial team changed some of his accounting dates to prevent his earnings from being taxed under a higher rate.

Rupert reportedly followed advice from tax advisers to change his accounting date so that 20 months of income would be taxed in 2009-2010, which would prevent 8 months worth of income from being taxed in the 2010-2011 year, during which the top rate of tax rose from 40% to 50%.

During the hearing, Rupert said that his knowledge of his financial affairs was “quite limited” and “he placed his faith in his father and accountants to deal with his financial affairs.”
