Gigi Hadid Dubbed 'Not Quite as Thin' as Other Models Then Proceeds to Become Biggest Supermodel in the World (Score!)

Let’s talk! Gigi Hadid is arguably the most famous supermodel of the moment.

Paris, Italy, New York… there isn’t fashion week she hasn’t walked in this year.

So the refreshingly honest story Tommy Hilfiger tells about his casting director poo-pooing the idea of Gigi walking in her first Tommy Hilfiger show is shocking!

“Our casting director said, ‘She doesn’t really fit because you know she’s not quite as tall as the other girls, she’s not quite as thin,’” he tells Yahoo Style.

She did walk, but Tommy explains they draped a large, red poncho over her.

Not surprisingly, people went crazy for her. “[The poncho] covered a lot of her body, unfortunately,” Tommy explains, “but it received millions of hits!”

Immediately, Tommy offered Gigi a collection, TommyxGigi, which they launched together last September. It flew off the shelves.

The idea of Gigi being thought of as “not thin” enough is alarming and dangerous.

Tommy‘s acceptance of Gigi‘s body just goes to show there is no one ideal body type for the fashion industry.
