Halsey Opens Up About Her Bipolar Disorder in a New Interview

In an illuminating new interview, singer Halsey opens up about her bipolar disorder with Debbie Harry (of the iconic band Blondie.)

“I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 16,” she tells Teen Vogue. “It’s a royal pain in the ass.”

She then goes on to talk about what it’s like struggling with a disorder like that when you’re constantly in the spotlight.

“When you’re a person with a platform, there’s this necessity to constantly be sound of mind and well behaved and calm and politically correct,” she explains.

It’s definitely true; successful singers are constantly scrutinized to make sure that they do every little thing right. Still, it’s heartening that more and more celebrities are using their platform to draw attention to their struggles with mental health. Lili Reinhart recently opened up on Twitter about her depression. Demi Lovato talks frequently about her experience with bipolar disorder.

We think it’s inspiring that Halsey is opening up about her mental health and about her struggles in a public way and opening the conversation for more people (celebrities and otherwise) to come forward.
