Reign's Adelaide Kane Reveals The Inspiring Things She Learned From Playing Mary, Queen of Scots

There are a lot of lessons to be learned in Reign – so so many, and the one star Adelaide Kane took away from the series was such a good one.

JJJ spoke to Adelaide ahead of the series finale of the show, and she revealed just what she learned from playing the Queen of Scots and how she applies it in her everyday life.

“How to take care of myself, so that I could show up to work happy and healthy every day,” she shared as the number one thing she learned. “Just managing a schedule and learning how to balance my eating habits, and working out, and socializing on top of work without burning myself out.”

Adelaide admits it didn’t come easy: “It took me a couple of years to get a handle on it, but just learning to take time for myself when I needed it and prioritizing sleep above everything is the most important thing. It’s no one’s business if i’m not being social – it’s my own. If i need to go home straight after work and do my work for the next day and have a cup of tea and go to bed, then that’s what I need to do and there’s no shame in that.”

Mary had a lot on her plate when ruling an entire country, not unlike Adelaide when she’s balancing everything in her career, social life and more.

“Just learning to schedule everything, and giving myself a break,” she adds. “I don’t have to be everything all the time. If I’m too tired to work out on my day off, I probably should for my health, but it’s okay if I don’t. Just being a more lenient with myself.”

“There’s just so much pressure on women to just be everything,” she shared. “You have to be hardworking and good at your job and then you also have to be really social and maintain a relationship and look after your body and eat right and to be beautiful, and smart, and talented — there’s so much pressure and you don’t have to be all those things.”

The biggest lesson of all? “It’s okay to not be all those things.”
