Troian Bellisario Reveals How Her Family Intervened & Helped Her Overcome Her Eating Disorder

Much like Lily Collins, Troian Bellisario didn’t have an “a ha” moment about getting help with her eating disorder either.

The Feed actress hosted a Tumblr Answer Time with fans and when asked about the moment she knew she needed to do something, she got real honest about it.

“I actually did not have a moment of clarity like that,” she shared about if there was a moment that she reached out for help. “I was confronted by my friends, family and teachers. When they confronted me they took me to a doctor who told me about anorexia for the first time and that I was anorexic.”

Troian continues, “I really had not even thought of it, I knew I was losing weight I knew I was hiding and obsessing in an unhealthy way, but really that was the first time me or my family had an honest conversation about what was going on.

“But even after that it was a difficult path to climb, I would get “better” for a bit then fall back into it, I would take treatment seriously then not, tell the truth then lie.”

“It was not until the school I was going to refused to let me continue attending and sent me home,” Troian revealed. “When I got back to LA my parents said they wouldn’t let me live with them unless I did an inpatient treatment.”

She adds, “I know it seems like tough love, but I think they knew that I wanted a way out, so they forced me to do it, I checked in the next day. Ironically, they didn’t have enough beds so the day I had to wait at home to check in was Thanksgiving…”

Probably not the best Thanksgiving for Troian that year.

“I can laugh at that now because I finally accepted help only to be stuck at home on the national feasting day…needless to say it was pretty painful for everyone involved; but tragedy plus time equals comedy.”
