Sam Smith Opens Up About Gender Identity: 'I Feel Just As Much Woman As I Am Man'

Sam Smith does not identify as a cisgender man.

“I don’t know what the title would be,” the singer told The Sunday Times in an interview, “but I feel just as much woman as I am man.”

The 25-year-old “Too Good at Goodbyes” crooner opened up to the newspaper about wearing traditionally female clothing as a teen and dressing the way that made him happy.

“I love a heel,” Sam continued. “I’ve got loads of heels at home. � People don’t know this, but when I was 17, I remember becoming obsessed with Boy George and Marilyn, and all that. There was one moment in my life where I didn’t own a piece of male clothing, really. I would wear full make-up every day in school, eyelashes, leggings with Dr. Martens and huge fur coats � for two and a half years.”

We love that Sam feels comfortable to embrace who he is and to inspire fans to do the same.
