'The Originals' Showrunner Talks How Hope Deals With Being Her Family's Only Hope in Final Season

Hope has a talk with mom Hayley in this new still from the season five premiere of The Originals, premiering tonight.

In the upcoming season, we’ll see how Hope deals with not just her powers, but being part of a powerful, magical family as well.

Julie Plec shared with Variety that her entire journey “is centered around the question of what kind of burden is it to place on an unborn child that she is this family’s only hope?”

“…What does that do to your psyche, what does that do to your sense of self?” she questions. “Here’s this girl with all of this kind of magic broiling around inside of her, and how is that going to manifest if she takes after her daddy and his temper problems? I think that it’s all part of growing up.”

Julie adds, “When you’re born into a complicated family and you’re trying hard to find your true self but you’ve inherited whatever disease that gets passed down through the DNA of that family — you’re just trying to be your best self.

“She’s constantly struggling to be that foundation that her family needs, which is not always easy.”

The Originals premieres TONIGHT, April 18th @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.
