Hailey Bieber Says She Wasn't Ever a Justin Bieber Superfan aka Belieber

Contrary to popular belief, Hailey Bieber wasn’t a Justin Bieber fan girl.

In her joint interview and cover story with husband Justin for Vogue, the 22-year-old model insisted she didn’t label herself as a Belieber.

“I was never a superfan, of him or of anyone,” she shared. “It was never that crazed, screaming thing. I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him. But for the first few years we had a weird age gap.”

After meeting each other through their parents, and thanks to Hailey‘s uncle Alec Baldwin giving her tickets to Today to meet the singer, their relationship turned into a friendship.

“One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, ‘Hey, you got older.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, what’s up?’ Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren’t hanging out [romantically].”

Hailey added that the friendship did turn into a dating relationship after that, but things did not end well.

“Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through,” Hailey explains in the feature. “Fizzled would not be the right word – it was more like a very dramatic excommunication. There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out.”

However, they came back together with the help from their church, and pastor.

“The common denominator, I promise you, is always church,” she says. “By then we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, ‘We’re not going to be friends.’ I was like, ‘We’re not?’”

Soon after, they became engaged.
