Ava DuVernay Developing DC Comics Series 'Naomi' For The CW

Ava DuVernay is working on a potential new series for The CW – Naomi!

The Oscar-nominated director/writer/producer is developing her third DC Comics project and is hoping to bring it to The CW, THR reports.

Ava is teaming up with former Arrow writer Jill Blankenship for Naomi, which “follows a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event rattles her hometown, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins. What she discovers will challenge everything people believe about superheroes.”

“Thanks @DCComics for believing in the vision. Barda. Zee Hernandez. Now, Naomi. The third DC project for @ARRAYNow. Working hard to bring these ladies to the screen. Thanks to @BrianMBendis @DavidWalker1201 + my writing partner Jill Blankenship for joining me on NAOMI. Love her,” Ava shared on Twitter after the news was announced.

If picked up to series, Naomi would be the first DC Comics show not produced by Greg Berlanti, who heads the Arrowverse, DC’s Stargirl and more.

Other DC Comics Ava has produced include the upcoming limited series DMZ and upcoming film The New Gods, which she also co-wrote and will direct.
