'Lizzie McGuire' Is Trending, But Not Because The Reboot Is Back On...

Lizzie McGuire has made it onto the “Trending Topics” list on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon (April 21), but not for a reason you would be hoping for…

The Hilary Duff-starring reboot was scrapped at Disney+ after creative differences between the network and the star caused it to come to a halt.

Now, the show is back in conversation, but it’s not because the reboot is back on, it’s because Hilary has landed a new show, on Hulu!

The 31-year-old actress and new mom of three will be heading back to TV much sooner than anyone would have anticipated. Her current series, Younger, is in the midst of it’s final season on Paramount+, with new episodes also coming out on Hulu.

Hilary will next star in a How I Met Your Mother sequel series from CBS and 20th Television, and it received a 10-episode straight to series order for Hulu.

How I Met Your Father will take place in the near future where “Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options,” according to THR.

“I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie,” Hilary shared in a statement. “As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6½’s in there!”

The new comedy comes from Love, Victor showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, with the original How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas returning to executive produce.

Now, you’re wondering what this has to do with Lizzie McGuire? Fans are upset that the Lizzie reboot, which Hilary lobbied to have moved to Hulu, is not happening, but this new show is bringing Hilary to Hulu instead.
