The 21-year-old actor joined Vanessa Hudgens, Sarah Hyland, Kat Graham, Jordin Sparks and The Jonas Brothers inside the ceremony.
Diego, honored for his work with the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children’s Cancer and Hematology Clinic, shared with Variety, “The Rio Grande Valley has special meaning to me because it’s where my mom grew up.”
He added, “When I was younger, I spent many of my summer holidays and Christmases there. I also still have family living there, so I have a real personal connection to the place — that and the fact that I’ve always loved kids made working with the clinic a great opportunity.”

“In 2009, I was waiting at baggage claim for my bags, and I saw the televised video of the brutal beating death of Derrion Albert, a 16-year-old caught in the middle of a neighborhood fight in Chicago,” the 22-year-old honoree shared.
Jordin continued, “I was so distraught and upset by it that it propelled me into action and the ‘I’m MAD Are You?‘ campaign was launched.”

The Jonas Brothers catch up with good friend Vanessa Hudgens inside Variety‘s 2012 Power of Youth held at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon (September 15).
The brothers — Joe, Nick and Kevin — are being honored for their work with Change for the Children Foundation, which they also founded.
“We believed that young people can make a huge difference in the world around us,” Nick shared. “They’re active with their communities, socially aware and always working to give back. We wanted to help our fans and every young person out there understand that they too can work to change the future for the better. And they can do that in so many different ways.”

The 21-year-old Modern Family actress was honored by Variety for her work with The Lopez Foundation.
“When I was a child, I was unable to go to any type of sleepaway summer camp because of health issues,” Sarah shared. “Once I learned about the Lopez Foundation, I knew I wanted to get involved (because they) send kids with kidney disease away to camp so they can still experience overnight camp with medical needs at hand.

The 23-year-old actress accepted the award from High School Musical director Kenny Ortega at the event, where she was honored for her work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“It was amazing,” Vanessa shared of her work so far with the organization. “I love the idea of being able to give kids hope and happiness. I’ve been addicted to being a part of the organization ever since.”
