“She just had to be so many things that were antithetical in a lot of ways,” director Kelly Fremon Craig shared about casting Hailee in the lead role. “Really tough, but also really fragile, and be able to completely nail the comedy but also slay you with how vulnerable and insecure and how much pain she’s in. And the thing that just amazed me is she could do that on a dime.”
She added, “She could go from a funny moment to a moment that just killed me. She was making things alive in a way that I just felt like I’m constantly witnessing something miraculous,” said the writer/director, who emphasized that none of the story points were autobiographical.”
FYI: Hailee is wearing a Balmain dress. Melissa is wearing a Preen dress.

Bailee Madison shows off a different side of herself in this new shoot from photographer Benjo Arwas, which will be featured in the new issue of Nylon Espanol.
JJJ has your first look at the fashion shoot and sneak peek of her interview below!
Nylon Espanol‘s summer collectors edition celebrates Generation Z girls who are paving the way and establishing the new pillars of entertainment.
For the feature, Bailee‘s glam was by Carissa Ferreri, hair by Scott King and styling by Mercedes Natalia.
On growing up in front of the camera: “It’s funny to me! I’ve always said that people can look back at any point in my life from age 4 and up to find milestones like birthdays or big events. It’s pretty much all been in public. I’ve learned to embrace it, I think it will be cool when I’m older for my kids and my family to look back and see my journey as an actress, but it is getting tougher. It’s challenging enough being a teenager and growing up, but it’s definitely added pressure doing it under a microscope. It’s a challenge that I love though and that I’m grateful for.”
On balancing school, work, friends and family: “I think balance when I was younger was a lot easier because I didn’t know any better. As a teenager, now I have a consistent group of friends, so it’s getting harder to leave each time we go back into production. Leaving my little niece as well, makes me so so sad. But I think it’s all about making time and finding the priorities. It’s easy to say that you don’t have time, but sometimes you have to get home from the long day on set, work quickly through those emails and stay up an extra 30 minutes or so to have fun with your family. It’s not easy, but thankfully I have friends and family who understand my lifestyle and I get theirs. We can go days without talking, but we’re always in each other’s hearts and that is something I’m very thankful for and don’t take for granted.”
Bailee Madison is officially wrapped with her latest project, Different Folks.
As with almost every project, the 16-year-old actress wrote a sweet message on Instagram.
“Wrapped on #DifferentFolks last night…. The biggest of congratulations to our cast and crew on such a memorable and special shoot. It was an honor to be surrounded by such hard working, driven, kind and joy filled individuals,” she wrote.
Bailee added, “Our crew never stopped smiling, took care of one another and always created special moments since day one. I’m humbled and blessed to be a part of something so much more than a just a film. The story on camera is just as wonderful and special as the story we created off screen.”
The Freeform movie will premiere later this year on the network.
