The 37-year-old actor took to Twitter and explained that next season will be his last.
“Hey all, so… Last weekend I talked to an audience at a Q&A about the end of #TVD and how excited I was to make what I believe – my last year – be as great as possible. Somehow in my infinite wisdom and end-of-season foggy brain, I managed to make it sound like the show was coming to an end. Cut-to the press running stories that the show would be done after Season 8. Thing is, the people who actually make that decision (the CW and WB) haven’t made it yet! So let’s take things one step at a time: Season 7 wrap, vacation, lots of sleep, let the writers get started on Season 8, and then we’ll all see where we go from there. Until then, much love ;),” Ian tweeted.
Ian Somerhalder leads the way as he and wife Nikki Reed head to their car after landing at LAX Airport on Tuesday (April 5) in Los Angeles.
The married couple was likely landing on a flight from Boston, where they attended the Girls Impact The World Film Festival. Ian took to his Instagram to share a sweet note about Nikki‘s work at the event.
“My beautiful wife mentoring young film makers, me and her cousins at Harvard right now at The Girls Impact The World Film Festival. Wow, what an honor to hear this talented, compassionate and giving human being. I can’t believe I get to spend my career and my life with her. Empowering women is the greatest investment in society. Period. What a day in Boston… Love, Ian,” he captioned the below photo.
He actually mentioned one of our favorite Damon moments ever!
“Episode 14 of Season 2,” Ian wrote in his EW blog. “It’s when Damon is lying in the road, and the girl Jessica pulls up. She gets out of the car looking at this peculiar scene, a man lying in the middle the road drinking out of a flask… He is so distraught, missing being human, but he can tell no one his true feelings unless he compels them and kills them.”
He continued, “It was such a cathartic scene for me to shoot. A very close second was the scene at the end of episode 10 of this season when Damon tells his mom that he loves her and that he’s sorry in the battle! Wow, two great scenes…”
Ian Somerhalder bonds with an orphaned elephant in Zimbabwe during a past trip.
The 37-year-old Vampire Diaries star has joined the effort to ensure that there are more elephants born this year than there are killed by poachers by partnering with WildAid’s “Year of the Elephant” campaign.
Ian recently told CNN that he became passionate about saving elephants when he bonded with one during his trip.
“I was staying in Zimbabwe in the bush at this incredible conservation institute,” Ian said. “Every morning I got to wake up and have my coffee with a young, orphaned elephant named Dojiwae. Both of her parents were killed by poachers unfortunately.”
Ian emphasized that not buying ivory products is one of the best ways to save elephants.
The night before, Ian and Nikkicoupled up for the 2016 Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Oscar Viewing Party held at The City of West Hollywood Park in West Hollywood.
“Finally here! This Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscars viewing party is mesmerizing while doing so much good,” Ian captioned an Instagram photo. “Sir Elton John, the fact that since 1992 you and your organization have raised $349 Million to fight this horrific disease as well as fighting stigma is nothing short of extraordinary. Fighting prejudice and educating people is incredible and I’m in awe of you as well as this organization. Thank you for having us here. Love, Ian and Nikki.”
