Lucy Hale On Stella's Cancer in 'Life Sentence': 'It's Always Possible It Could Come Back'

Lucy Hale‘s Stella in Life Sentence might be cured from cancer at the moment, but there’s still a chance it could come back.

In a recent interview with Variety, the 28-year-old actress chatted about the off chance that it might just do that and how Stella would respond.

“Yes, it’s always possible that it could come back,” she admits, but as we all saw in the pilot episode, Stella went through this rare treatment that cured it all.

Lucy explains that the treatment she went through is a real thing.

“Basically what these doctors do is they take these viruses that are normally kill people, so Stella will be injected with the AIDS virus so that virus kills all the cancer cells and leaves all the healthy cells alone, and thankfully cures her cancer,” she shared. “It actually is a real treatment that they do. It’s very rare, and it’s still in beginning stages, but it is a real thing.”

Right now, Stella is cured, however, “there is always the possibility that it could come back.”

Life Sentence airs TONIGHT @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.

“I would describe Stella as very quirky, very optimistic,” Lucy told MTV. “She is the kind of girl who sees the glass half full. She’s always living in the moment. She’s game for anything. She’s spontaneous.”

“She’s taught me to be more living in the moment, more aware, more grateful [and selfless],” Lucy added. “She’s someone I strive to be a lot more like.”

Lucy also talked about Pretty Little Liars, dealing with the haters, her producing dreams, and more.

“These characters aren’t perfect and they do mess up,” Lucy Hale shared in a recent interview about the series. “…That’s what’s so great, is that people aren’t perfect and we’re not shying away from that. And it’s dealt with in a really funny way, because I think there’s nothing more relatable than dysfunction.”

Lucy Hale & Elliot Knight Dish on Stella & Wes's 'Undeniable Chemistry' on 'Life Sentence'

Lucy Hale & Elliot Knight Dish on Stella & Wes's 'Undeniable Chemistry' on 'Life Sentence'

The CW’s Life Sentence premieres tonight with Lucy Hale and Elliot Knight, who are dishing about their on-screen whirlwind romance and marriage.

“When we meet in Paris, for Wes, he meets this amazing new life force of someone who has this whole perspective on living, existing, that he’s never encountered before,” Elliot explains to Collider in a new interview.

Meeting Stella, for Wes, he says, is breath of fresh air.

“She blows him away because she is just this amazing, magnetic, spontaneous creature who lights a fire inside of him. I think he, for the first time in his life, stops thinking and just goes straight for that feeling. That is very much the theme of their marriage and them as a couple together: it’s this burning fire that they’re both just dancing in and living in.”

Lucy adds that their relationship gets a wake up call when she’s cured though.

“They realize how much they had never discovered, things they had never discovered about each other. So there are definitely some speed bumps,” she says. “[But] At the core of everything, they love each other so much, and there’s that childlike love that’s always there.”

“Their chemistry and connection is just undeniable, so that’s what keeps them together. But there’s definitely a lot of learning and growing to do.”

Lucy Hale Had a Hand in Shaping 'Life Sentence' Character Stella

Lucy Hale Had a Hand in Shaping 'Life Sentence' Character Stella

Not many actors get to say that they created their own character — but Lucy Hale can, kind of.

In a new interview with Elle magazine, the 28-year-old actress opened up about her character Stella in The CW’s Life Sentence and how she had a hand in shaping who Stella turned out to be.

“The creators [Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith] hung out with me a few times to get a sense of how I talk and act, and they kind of created the character around me,” she shared. “It’s a lot more work, but I like having the weight of the world on my shoulders.”

Lucy adds that Stella has become “the most positive character I’ve ever played.”

Life Sentence premieres on Wednesday, March 7th on The CW.
