Not to brag, but our Twitter chat with Raini Rodriguez about her new movie, When Marnie Was There, was kind of awesome!
The 21-year-old actress chatted with us over Twitter about the Studio Ghibli flick, which is out in New York and Los Angeles TODAY.
Check out what Raini spilled about her character, the lesson and more — psst, she even opened up about what’s next for her and it involves in music and directing! Yay!
On how excited she is for the movie: So excited! This was my first Japanese to English animated film. I loved the script the first time I read it! It’s great :)
On her character in the film: I play Nobuko. She’s like the towns popular girl who has a lot of energy and talks really fast, although she can be sassy too. She tries and fails, but eventually becomes friends with Anna, Hailee Steinfields character.
On the appeal of When Marnie Was There: I’ve never done an animated film like this before. The film has already been done in Japanese and I was brought in to do the English voice. It was cool cause normally you have to start from scratch with imagining your character. But I got to watch Nobuko on screen and match my words to her mouth movements. It was new, but really fun!
On her favorite scene or line from the movie: Nobuko is always in charge of the other kids in their town, so there’s a scene where she’s telling everyone what to do. I basically backed up from the microphone in the booth & pretended I was bossing my brothers around, telling them what to do!
