We’re all anxious for more details about The Perfectionists — and showrunner I. Marlene King is delivering!

Speaking with ET recently, she dished about locations, just which other Pretty Little Liars characters might pop up and bringing in important male characters into the show.

“I felt like just as we were getting sort of into season five and six of Pretty Little Liars, our guys became such an important part of the show,” she says. “I wanted to explore the relationship between guys and girls who can be friends and not necessarily boyfriend-girlfriend.”

Marlene says that they’re looking to shoot the pilot in Portland and are “in the process of rewriting [the pilot] just to fine-tune it perfectly… we’re super excited about it.”

As for any other PLL characters to pop up, she didn’t rule anything out — even when it came to Emily (Shay Mitchell).

“Well, we’ll just have to wait and see,” she teased.

As long as I. Marlene King is on social media, we have a feeling that we’ll never run out of Pretty Little Liars stories.

Over the weekend, the PLL showrunner surprised fans with a mini-story centered on Spencer and Toby and obviously, everyone freaked out about it.

“She walked into the kitchen expecting to be along. Toby was working late, or at least that’s what she thought,” Marlene‘s writing prompt started out with.

She continued, “Toby was waiting for her at the center island. His work was going as expected. Over 50 units sheltering the Philly homeless. Spencer left the office early that day. She was earning her law degree at Hollis Colege while clerking with her mom in Rosewood.”

We have been patiently waiting for season two of Famous in Love ever since the show was renewed back in August — and showrunner I. Marlene King is giving us yet another reason to love the show.

“It was tough to say goodbye to Pretty Little Liars,” she wrote in a note on Twitter.

“But the greatest gift of my job is I get to say hello to almost every PLL department head and crew member as we say hello to season two of Famous In Love. Welcome home my TV family.”

Aww! Famous in Love is basically the closest thing we have to Pretty Little Liars right now, since all of the same people are working on it.

Well, that is to say, until The Perfectionists airs.

We can’t wait for season two!

Pretty Little Liars closed out its seventh and final season last month with an explosive two-hour finale, and many fans (read: us) are struggling to let go of our beloved characters.

Fortunately, as showrunner Marlene King revealed in a Q&A on Twitter last night (July 27), we may not be saying goodbye forever.

“hey @imarleneking, would you say we will NEVER see the PLL characters again or is there a chance of something in the future? #askmar” one super-fan tweeted at Marlene.

“I hope there will be some type of future for some characters,” Marlene responded, and her cryptic response is giving fans all the hope in the world.

“Umm there better be!!” Shay Mitchell quote tweeted the response.

Pretty Little Liars had its share of boundary pushing storylines throughout the seven season run.

There was Charlotte being transgender, a sort of implied incest storyline with Jenna and Toby, and we can’t forget about Aria and Ezra’s relationship — we mean, it was statutory rape.

“It was such a big part of Sara [Shepard]‘s first book, and that book became the pilot, so we just sort of owned it,” showrunner I. Marlene King shared in a recent interview with NY Times.

“I wanted to be true to the characters that Sara created, and it was the biggest part of Aria’s story. It is what it is.”

But those storylines weren’t the biggest ones that she got pushback on — it was Emily Fields being gay!

“ABC Family was really a conservative channel, spun out of the Christian Broadcast Network,” she shared, “and so, yeah, I got a lot of angry letters from conservative Christian moms who couldn’t believe that two girls kissed in the pilot.”

“They didn’t care that Aria and her teacher were making out – they cared about two girls kissing. It says a lot about our society, for sure.”

However, Emily’s coming out and relationships were really important to tell, especially to Marlene.

Pretty Little Liars may be over, but the influence of the seven-season teen drama is not dying out anytime soon. The final episode was the most-tweeted about television episode of 2017, and throughout its run, the show taught its viewers a lot about resilience, bravery, and friendship.

In a new essay, showrunner Marlene King opens up about the “true aim” for the show and what it means to her.

“The true aim of Pretty Little Liars was to show its audience that friendship could get you through anything,” she wrote in an essay for Thrive Global, It was important that we show that in as many and diverse ways as possible. Through breakups, huge mistakes, betrayal and mental health issues, these girls stuck together.”

She went on to talk about how it means a lot to her what her audience took out of the show.

“We hope we have given our audience not just seven years of wish fulfillment but also a path to seeing how to promote friendship and kindness through choices and actions.”

She has definitely given us that, and a little bit of our hearts will be in Rosewood forever.

Earlier this year, the internet was losing its’ mind over the possibility of another Pretty Little Liars spinoff happening.

Showrunner I. Marlene King is working on a new series for Freeform called The Perfectionists, which just happens to be based off the books by Sara Shepard, the same author who wrote the PLL books.

While it was all speculation then about this show actually being a spin-off, Marlene is giving us a little more information on the project.

When asked about the show and its’ ties to PLL, Marlene had this to say:

“You know there might be some truth to that, but my hands are tied and I’m not allowed to talk about it just yet. So hopefully we will get to share some news soon!”
