Missy Franklin poses with her Sportswoman of the Year award during the 2014 Laureus World Sports Awards at the Istana Budaya Theatre on Wednesday night (March 26) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 18-year-old champion swimmer beat out soccer player Nadine Angerer, runner Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva, skier Tina Maze and tennis player Serena Williams for the prestigious honor.
“Couldn’t be more honored to receive the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year Award. To even be considered along such prestigious athletes is a dream let alone receiving the award from Mark Spitz. Thank you so much #Laureus for such an unforgettable night! HUGE congrats to all the other recipients and nominees!” Missy captioned on Instagram.
She added later on, “And to top the night off I was able to spend some wonderful time with Benedict Cumberbatch! Such a genuine person and a wonderful host! #sherlock #totallyfangirled”
Just the day before, Missy gave a swimming lesson to local children during the Laureus Familiarization Visit held at the Bukat Jalil National Aquatic Centre. So cool!

The 18-year-old Olympic swimmer took home the top honor of the night — Sportswoman Of The Year.

“I’ve heard so many incredible things about college and I’ve given up so much for this experience,” Missy shared with People. “I’m so looking forward to it.”
She added about moving to California to attend University of California, Berkeley: “I’m just going to go there as Missy the freshman, you know? Like every other freshman going there … to have the time of my life.”

Missy Franklin shows off her medal with her teammates during the 15th FINA World Championships held at Palau Sant Jordi on Thursday (August 1) in Barcelona, Spain.
The 18-year-old Olympian competed alongside Katie Ledecky, Shannon Vreeland, and Karlee Delane Bispo.
So far, Missy picked up two relay titles and golds in 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke and was fifth-fastest in the 100 freestyle semifinals.
“Couldn’t be happier with results from today! Missed @arschmitty so much in that final! But loved having @s_vreeland there with me,” Missy wrote just a day before.

Missy Franklin joins Prince Harry and US Paralympian Lieutenant Brad Snyder during the Opening Ceremony of the Warrior Games on Saturday afternoon (May 11) in Colorado Springs, Co.
Just the night before, the 18-year-old Olympian and the Prince attended a reception at the Sanctuary Golf Course.
“And the perfect way to end my 18th birthday!? Meeting Prince Harry! It was a honor meeting him and I had a blast as always,” Missy wrote on Instagram.
She added with a note to her fans, “Thank you SO SO MUCH for all my birthday wishes! God had blessed me with every one of you and this has by far been the best birthday ever! I’ve felt so much love and it means the world to me! God is good! Thank you for making my 18th so special!”

The gala united all seven Cirque du Soleil shows on the Las Vegas strip to raise awareness of World Water Day. The production featured 237 Cirque du Soleil artists and guest performers and was filmed by 12 cameras to create a very exciting 90-minute special.
ONE DROP, a nonprofit organization, works to secure water access by implementing integrated and unique water projects around the world and to reverse the growing water crisis by raising awareness for water-related issues. Since its inception in 2007, ONE DROP has worked to provide access to clean, safe water for more than 300,000 people.
“Many thanks to everyone who sent prayers my way. They made all the difference in how my evening went,” Jackie tweeted after her performance. She was sick with the flu that night!
