Rowan Blanchard Opens Up About Vegas Shooting: 'There Have Been More Mass Shootings That I Can Count on Two Hands'

Many celebrities took to social media right away after the Las Vegas shooting that happened on Sunday.

They called for policy change and condemned the person behind the attacks. However, Rowan Blanchard took a little more time to fully gather her sorrow, thoughts and more.

“Haven’t really known what to say on here in the aftermath of the Las Vegas shooting- trying to figure out ways of continuing to fight and resist this America while still giving ourselves time to log off, rest and process,” she wrote on Instagram today.

“Mass shootings feel like the number one thing my generation has grown up alongside- most of us were in elementary school during Sandy Hook,” Rowan recalls. “I remember vividly coming home from school that day, seeing a bunch of parents talking, realizing it could [have] been us. What happened on Sunday feels uncomfortably normalized, It feels like our news cycle has gotten so cyclical with these shootings, so much so that reading that 58 people have been shot dead doesn’t really make us react in the way I think we would if this wasn’t such an often occurrence.”

“58 people being killed by guns should not be normal. I don’t ever want to feel ‘numb’ to this, but, I’m in high school still and have watched more mass shootings happen during my short lifetime than I can count on two hands,” she adds.

Rowan continues, pleading for something to change.

“I don’t want to beg anymore for gun control. I want to see people screaming and calling and demanding it until we get it. This is an issue that affects everyone, no one is exempt. What ways are we coping? How are we taking a second to process the normalization of videos of people getting killed and that affect on our psyche? In what ways are we continuing to fight back while also giving ourselves space to log off and process the amount of violence we have had to process this year alone?”
