'The Perfectionists' Author Sara Shepard Dishes On How Sasha Pieterse & Janel Parrish's PLL Characters Will Fit Into The Show

Last month, we all flipped out that Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish were returning to Freeform as Ali and Mona on The Perfectionists

But what we were kind of worried and confused about is just how the characters would fit in, because they’re not part of the books at all.

Speaking with EpicReads, Sara Shepard opened up about it all, and more importantly, just how Alison DiLaurentis and Mona VanderWaal would fit in.

“I have read the pilot, and I love how Ali is written into the story,” she says. “Not to give away too much, but she plays a big part at the school, though she isn’t one of the characters from the book.”

Sara added, “Mona is a little bit more nebulous. She comes in at the end, but I have a feeling she’s going to be a major linchpin to the series. That stuff we saw with Mona at the end of PLL, when she was in Paris? I think that connects to this story somehow. But I’m not sure quite how yet!”
