'Julie & The Phantoms' Producer Says There's No Plans At This Time For Season 2

There are no plans for a second season of Julie and the Phantoms, despite fans push for it to be resurrected.

The Netflix series ran for one season, released in September 2020, before being canceled over a year later.

Since, fans have been petitioning for the streamer to reconsider, or for another platform to pick it up.

They even bought marquee billboards across the world, garnering the attention of executive producer, choreographer and director Kenny Ortega, who thanked the fans last week.

Now, in a new interview, Kenny is addressing the current plans of the show.

“At this particular time, no,” Kenny told Deadline on if there are plans to take it to another platform. “I’m grateful to Netflix for greenlighting the project and for letting Dan, Dave, and I have this time. I feel it’s some of the best work I’ve done for kids and family, and young adult entertainment. I’m proud of it. And if it never happens again and it doesn’t have an afterlife, I’m grateful that it exists. I hope it exists forever so others can find it and watch it over the years.”

“But you know, anything is possible. I don’t want to jinx it,” Kenny added. “If Netflix wants to carry on with it anytime in the future, perhaps someone else will be interested in it. Perhaps we could tour the kids as a music group or maybe a film. But for now, there are no plans.”

Though there are no plans for the show to continue, yet, he does say “never say never,” and he won’t reveal what the plans for season two would have been.

“When it becomes clear to Dan, Dave, and I this experience with Julie is not going to move forward, I’ll tell you everything we had planned,” he said.

To the Fantoms, Kenny is just really thankful for all of their support.

“I wish that I could tell the fans that all of [their efforts] will get them Julie back,” he told the site. “All I can really say is how much all of this has mattered to all of us who made the show and that we love them and are so grateful for the passion they’ve shown to the project.”
