Keke Palmer Says Leading Horror Film 'Nope' Gives Her Chills

Keke Palmer stars in Nope and playing the lead isn’t lost on her.

The 28-year-old entertainer opened up in a new interview with GQ Hype about the upcoming horror film, working with director Jordan Peele and more.

“It’s just so unexpected,” she says about the film. “From Get Out to Us and [now] Nope, he really is not bound by anything. The throughline is exceptionally thoughtful work, but none of the framework in which it exists has to be the same.”

While Keke has been acting since she was a young kid, she hasn’t been the lead of a major studio film, let alone a young Black actress playing the final girl in a horror movie.

“It gives me chills,” Keke told GQ Hype. “We all know the archetypes: the jester, the orphan, the hero, the list goes on. But what does it look like when you put all the ones that don’t usually exist together? This is really a character driven piece about two siblings. But at the same time, it’s a social commentary, outré film that’s saying a bigger message–and also a blockbuster, something that is commercial.”
