Jena Malone Opens Up About The 'Truth' Of War In 'Hunger Games' Films
Jena Malone poses in front of a Mockingjay emblem at the Stand With The Mockingjay event powered by Samsung in New York City on Thursday afternoon (October 8).
There, the 30-year-old actress got to check out the 360-degree digital content using the Samsung Gear VR first hand.
In her feature with Flaunt, Jena opened up about the appeal of The Hunger Games and what drew her to the project.
“It’s really kind of easy to lump them all together, like Harry Potter, and Twilight, and Divergent. There are so many different things, and I wondered if this was all just another youth fixation? And then I read the book and I realized, ‘Holy s***, these books are talking about war in a way that is so unusual. These books are talking about war and how they interact with everyday people in a way that KTLA, or a Los Angeles news program, whatever, evening news, won’t even touch upon, you know?’” Jena shared.
She added, “And I thought that’s really f****** interesting. These eight-year-old girls, 16-year-old boys are hungry for the truth of war. So, I guess that the most exciting thing for me, is that they were really interesting anti-war novels. And it made me want to dig even deeper into the truth of what it is to be war-torn. Whether it’s through the country, through your mind, through your body; all of these things and how war penetrates people.”
