Auli’i Cravalho stops to sign some autographs after attending the Come From Away opening night performance held at Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night (November 28).
The 18-year-old actress, who just celebrated her birthday last week, actually channeled her inner Moana recently after she got lost in the woods.
“I got lost in the woods and ended up hiking 5 hours navigating back using only my inner compass,” Auli’i shared with her fans on Instagram. “These pics were taken when my phone was still alive.”
She added, “AKA when the panic hadn’t set in yet. #Wayfinding #Literally #ThatRedLipTho #DontForgetYourMap #TBT.”
Auli’i Cravalho wears a yellow flower in her hair while arriving in style for the Ralph Breaks The Internet at the El Capitan Theatre on Monday night (November 5) in Hollywood.
The 17-year-old actress met up with her Disney Princess co-stars of the film - Irene Bedard (Pocahontas), Kate Higgins (Aurora), Jennifer Hale (Cinderella), Jodi Benson (Ariel), Mandy Moore (Rapunzel), Sarah Silverman (Vanellope), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Paige O’Hara (Belle), Linda Larkin (Jasmine), and Pamela Ribon (Snow White).
Every Halloween season there’s definitely a few costumes that are deemed culturally inappropriate – however, Moana shouldn’t be one of them, according to Auli’i Cravalho.
The 17-year-old actress, who voiced the Polynesian heroine in the animated movie, chatted with People about the issue.
“I think it’s absolutely appropriate,” Auli’i shared. “It’s done in the spirit of love and for Disney and for the little ones who just want to dress up as their favorite heroine, I’m all for it.”
She continued, “I would encourage anyone who wants to dress up as a wayfinder who journeys beyond her reef to figure out who she truly is, I totally support you. Go for it! Parents can dress up as Moana, too.”
Auli’i adds that Moana speaks to young children of all backgrounds, just like her Disney Princess predecessors before her: “I think each of the Disney princesses are just pretty reflective of their time. This day in age, we definitely need a heroine who is the hero of her own story, who journeys beyond what her parents have done, who breaks the mold.”
“That’s what we need right now and hopefully what we will continue to see later on, but there’s still things to be learned from other Disney princesses that we’ve come from. It’s just like our parents: We’re not like our parents and yet we can see the similarities and differences. We can always be grateful for what we’ve learned from.”
Yara Shahidi and Lauren Jauregui rock their ‘vote’ tees at the We Vote Next Summit event presented by Eighteen X 18 at TOMS Corporate Office on Saturday (September 29) in Los Angeles.
“Eternally grateful for the my peer delegates, who traveled cross country, to spend the day in constructive conversation and community for our FIRST #wevotenextsummit,” Yara wrote on Instagram afterwards.
She added more thanks to “Team Soze for having such a deep belief in me and putting 200% in executing my vision, which is now a shared vision & vehicle to inspire us young voters to use our voices! ⚡️ What a weekend!”
If you don’t know Eighteenx18 was founded by Yara to educate and engage the next generation of voters.
Auli’i‘s video is promoting the Dream Big Princess campaign which encourages kids everywhere to dream big by highlighting inspiring moments from the official Disney Princesses and heroines.

“This really cute guy just said I was really beautiful and he liked my glasses and my stomach is fluttering in these high waisted jeans and we still have food coming and,” she wrote, along with a GIF of a lady falling to the ground.
Auli’i can next be heard in the upcoming Disney animated sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, where she will voice her breakout character Moana once again.
