Marsai Martin steps out for the Black-ish 100th Episode Celebration held at Walt Disney Studios over the weekend in Burbank, Calif.
The 14-year-old actress was joined by on-screen brothers Miles Brown and Marcus Scribner for the event, celebrating this week’s episode, dedicated to Prince.
Speaking to NYPost, executive producer and new showrunner Kenny Smith opened up about Marsai’s performance to “Purple Rain” for the show, calling it one of the best.
“With Diane, you can tell [Marsai] studied that video,” he shared. “The look was perfect [as was] her performance, and the little nuances she brought to make that pop.”
He adds, “The moment toward the very end where she takes her hand off the mic and then goes back as if she was about to say something, and then she just says, like, ‘No’ — and walks away. That’s a rock star.”
Mentored by Rylee‘s older sister, Lindsay Arnold, the team performed a fun Charleston to “One Jump Ahead” from the film.
During the video package, you could see Miles playing some mischievous pranks on his co-stars on the show – just like Sasha Farber does on the main show!
Miles and Rylee picked up 27 points out of 30 for their performance.
