Here's How Shawn Mendes's 'Lost in Japan' Single Came About

Shawn Mendes gave his fans not just one, but TWO new singles from his upcoming album this week.

The story for “In My Blood” was all about Shawn‘s anxiety and how he dealt with that.

“The concept of this song is about how it feels [when] you’re about to give up, and then you don’t,” he shared with Billboard. “That’s the whole payoff in the chorus section…It’s about something that I think everybody goes through and it’s something that I think people don’t talk about often, especially in music.”

So, what’s the meaning behind “Lost in Japan”? This song actually came to him in a dream!

“I had this dream that I was lost in this country and I woke up the next day and we had this cool piano part and the song was birthed,” he says.

Shawn adds that the two songs together will give you a really good preview of the music to come from him.

“I think people are gonna think on Thursday that it’s gonna be a rock album, and then on Friday, they’re gonna have no idea what’s going on and it’s awesome.”
