Thomasin McKenzie to Portray Olympic Gymnast Kerri Strug In New Biopic

Thomasin McKenzie will be turning into an Olympic gymnast for an upcoming role!

It was just announced that the 20-year-old actress will portray Kerri Strug in the movie Perfect, Deadline reports.

The upcoming biopic is described as “an intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination. Perfect charts the story behind Kerri Strug’s historic Olympic vault to secure America’s first ever gymnastics team gold.”

Kerri competed at the 1996 Olympics with the US Women’s team, and led the team to winning the country’s first team gold in gymnastics. During the final day of vaults, Kerri was the last on her team to compete, and when she first landed, she fell and injured her ankle.

But, the next person to compete after her, for Russia, caused Kerri to need to perform a second vault in order to ensure the gold for the team. Her coach insisted she needed to do it, and she limped up to the runway and completed her vault, landing on both feet for just a moment before falling.

She was then carried to the podium by her coach to join her team, and was later treated at a hospital for a third-degree lateral sprain and tendon damage.

Olivia Wilde will serve as director, as well as an executive producer.
