Candice Patton Dishes on How 'Shethority' Collective Was Born & Future Of It

Candice Patton and Caity Lotz started a female empowerment organization and you need to be paying attention to it.

In a new interview with E!, The Flash actress opened up about how Shethority came about during a hike, and what the two DC stars are hoping to accomplish.

“We were just talking about these conventions we go on a lot, and you know, we meet fans, we sign autographs, we take pictures, and we go home,” Candice explains. “A lot of our fans are young, they’re women, they’re women of color, and we don’t really get to have a dialogue with them in that medium at a convention. It’s two minutes and they’re ushered on and the next fan comes up.”

She continues, “We saw a desire from them to want to talk about seeing us on screen and the importance of being a woman and empowerment, so we wanted to create a place for young girls, women, and boys to speak on female empowerment.”

“The more that we have a dialogue about what we’re going through, the more I realize that we’re in this together, and we are stronger together,” Candice shares of the mission behind it. “We, Caity and I and some of the other girls in the DC TV universe want to create a space for young women to feel that empowerment too…that we have their back, that their voice matters, and they have a space to speak up and speak out.”

Shethority, which launched tee shirts late last year, aims to create a positive and inspirational space to discuss and conquer the unique challenges of the female experience in today’s world.

“I hope it’s a huge nonprofit,” Candice says, dreaming about what it could become. “I see mentorship programs where women in successful careers, whether it be film or TV or doctors or lawyers or people in STEM, reaching out to some of these young girls and being able to mentor them through Facetime or emails or short texts.”

She adds, “We have so many ideas, it’s just focusing them and getting each one done at a time, and we’d love to work with other organizations like Time’s Up. I think it could be a really powerful force for a lot of young women in the world.”

Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh, Arrow‘s Emily Bett Rickards, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy, The Flash‘s Danielle Panabaker, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s Maisie R. Sellers and Tala Ashe are all involved as well.

Melissa Benoist Reacts to Big News From Chyler Leigh While Filming Arrow-Verse Crossover

Melissa Benoist Reacts to Big News From Chyler Leigh While Filming Arrow-Verse Crossover

Melissa Benoist has a big and happy reaction to whatever on-screen sister Chyler Leigh is telling her while filming scenes for the crossover in Vancouver, Canada on Wednesday afternoon (October 11).

The two Supergirl stars were seen waiting outside a church before Caity Lotz, who plays Sara Lance on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, joins them.

Not that we want Alex Danvers and her fiance, Maggie, to split, but could the big news involve Sara in any way?

Floriana Lima, who plays Maggie, is going down to a recurring star, too.

There was that one scene where Sara asked out Kara, and she told her to ask her sister instead in the first crossover event — even though we never saw it.

Hmmm, we’ll have to wait and see!
