Could you imagine The Chainsmokers‘ “Don’t Let Me Down” without Daya?
The 18-year-old singer – who is nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 2017 Grammys this weekend for her work on the song – is revealing that her mom didn’t want her to record it at first because of The Chainsmokers‘ “hard-partying reputation!” (via ABC Radio)
When her mom found out about the Grammy nomination, Daya revealed, “She was laughing. ‘Cause she was against it, for a very small amount of time in the beginning. But I told her I wanted to do it, and she was okay with it, and she met [The Chainsmokers], and now she loves them and they’re like family to her!”
“I think it’s the biggest honor to get a Grammy or even to be nominated for a Grammy, because it’s so music-focused,” she added. “And it’s [voted for] by real, true, talented musicians and respectable people in the industry. So… it’s an honor to be a part of that.”

“I just feel it’s a way of expressing yourself at the moment,” Peyton told WWD about fashion. “It’s for me and not anyone else. People say, ‘Guys like it when you dress down.’ I don’t give a beep about what guys like.”

In just a month, Daya will be on the road with her Sit Still, Look Pretty tour!
The 18-year-old singer, who covers the February/March 2017 issue of Girl’s Life, opened up about a cool feature on the tour — a Q&A soundcheck!
“I put together a Q&A soundcheck, where [ticket holders] can come and ask questions and we can interact and not make it so strict,” Daya explains. “I honestly can’t wait.”
She adds, “I feel like I have a story to tell. I think everyone does. And even though it’s intimidating to share what I think with the world, I do it because I love it…It’s kind of like life in general. You can look at it as this huge, daunting task, or you can just jump into it.”
TELL JJJ: Will you be going to see Daya on tour?
Despite the tragic and unfortunate events that have loomed over our heads like a dark cloud in 2016, no one can argue that the year had one heck of a soundtrack.
With new albums from Beyonce, Kanye, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna (among many, many others) we’ve been lucky enough to have music to turn to when we’ve felt our lowest, our giddiest, and our most apathetic.
We’ve had songs to listen to when we’ve shuddered with sobs beneath our covers, when we’ve never ever wanted to see that person ever again, and when we’ve felt hopeful, perhaps for the first time in a while.
Still, lists like these are subjective, so in the interest of mixing matters up, we’ve sorted our favorite song lyrics of the year into categories – most meaningful, best rhymes, most memorable, and funniest.
