Hayley Kiyoko Wanted To Show off Her Confidence with 'Feelings' Video

Hayley Kiyoko made us feel all the emotions in her latest music video for “Feelings” — a vision she came up with and directed herself.

The talented musician recently chatted with Billboard about the video and how she wanted to show a different side of herself in the story — the more confident, flirty side.

“In a lot of my videos I’m very upset and vulnerable. No one likes me, and I’m like, [screams] ‘AGH,’ just so sad,” Hayley explains. “So I also just wanted to show my cockier side, and more of my confidence in this video.”

She continues, “That moment when you see a cute girl and you’re like, ‘Damn, you cute.’ Like, ‘Imma try to get you.’ I wanted to show that side of myself in the video. Also, I just wanted to be playful and not in a creepy way; in a very kind of fun way.”

Hayley, who is a lesbian, also talked about showing off who she really is with the visual.

“I feel like people are starting to get the hang of it, that I’m going to always like girls and there’s always going to be a girl involved in the video.”

She adds, “There’s multiple ways of telling those stories, and you know, if I do my job correctly I should be able to tell those stories every time and have it be fresh and unique because there’s so many different parts of relationships. The before, the after, during. But I feel like people are starting to get the picture.”

Hayley Kiyoko Fans Are Going Crazy Over New Single 'Feelings' - Watch The Video Here!

Hayley Kiyoko just dropped the song and video we’ve all been waiting for.

The musician debuted her new song “Feelings” along with the official music video and we kind of can’t stop and don’t want to stop watching it.

“The lyrics are so truthful to where I’m at,” Hayley shared with Buzzfeed about the track.

“I’m currently single, and I remember going into the studio and just complaining, ‘Why do I have to be so ashamed of feelings? Why is that so bad?’ The lyrics are so dead-on with how I feel. I hope people will relate and connect to it as well.”

She adds about the video, “I want people to watch the video and have it remind them of that first moment — the butterflies when you first get hooked on somebody.”

And fans are loving it, just like JJJ.

One fan says: “my friends and i are watching feelings by @HayleyKiyoko for the first time and we’re literally SCREAMING”; with another adding, “I’m literally crying over @HayleyKiyoko ‘s new single. Like sobbing. Ugly, sapphic, sobbing.”

Musician Hayley Kiyoko Likes Girls & Opens Up About Wanting To Encourage LGBTQ Youth To Find Confidence

Musician Hayley Kiyoko Likes Girls & Opens Up About Wanting To Encourage LGBTQ Youth To Find Confidence

Hayley Kiyoko truly came out to her fans last year, and not a lot of people noticed.

You might have seen and watched the former CSI: Cyber actress and singer’s video for “Girls Like Girls”, but probably didn’t realize it was her own story.

“I felt like I was finally telling my story for the first time. The yearning feelings I had and also the feeling of being so alone. I think that’s why people connected with the music video.

Not only because they too have experienced deeply liking someone, but also the sadness and longing that comes with it,” Hayley wrote for Paper magazine.

Hayley also touched on her own sexuality: “I told Lily [May Young, songwriter] that I always say ‘you’ and ‘them’ and never the pronoun ‘her’ in all my songs because I was afraid it wouldn’t connect. We talked more about concepts and my experiences, and how I loved the idea of stealing another guy’s girl because that was always a fantasy of mine. Growing up, everything I did was always about girls. I took dance because of girls. I got involved in student council because of girls. Not that I ever expected any of them to like me back, but I just felt comforted being around them, even if I could never date them.”

“Most of the time, you become confident after years of struggling during your young adulthood,” she continues. “I want to encourage the youth to find that confidence now. Not later. For them to know their own self-worth at an earlier age.”

Hayley Kiyoko Rocks Out on MTV's 'Wonderland' - Watch All Her Performances!

Hayley Kiyoko put on such an amazing show on last night’s MTV Wonderland!

The musician performed a ton of her new songs, including “Gravel To Tempo” and “One Bad Night”, and also performed “Girls Like Girls” (our fave), “Palace” and “Pretty Girl”.

“Freaking out watching myself on MTV right now. What is happening. Is this real life?!?” Hayley shared on Twitter afterwards.

Speaking with PopCrush recently, she opened up about staying connected to her fans: “I stay after all my shows and meet everyone…it’s really important for me to meet the people that I’m connecting with. It’s so wonderful to hear people’s stories.”

Hayley added, “The thing with me, with what I’m doing, is it’s all bigger than me. The music and my stories and my perspective…it’s bigger than me. So to be able to meet the fans, because it’s not just my story; it’s their story and what they’re going through, and it’s cool to get to share that with them and make them feel like they’re not alone and that there’s someone out there who understands them. And I think that that’s something that a lot of people are not fortunate enough to have. So I have to make sure that they know I get it.”
