In “You Remind Me of Someone I Used to Know,” as the Salvatore School prepares for its annual football game against Mystic Falls High, the latest monster to arrive in Mystic Falls sets its eyes on one of the students. Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) and Josie’s (Kaylee Bryant) relationship is put to the test when a player from the opposing team catches his eye.

Elsewhere, Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) enlists MG’s (Quincy Fouse) help learning more about Sebastian (Thomas Doherty), and Alaric (Matthew Davis) goes head to head with Professor Vardemus (Alexis Denisof).

Thomas Doherty has quite the comparison for his Legacies character Sebastian and Jenny Boyd‘s Lizzie’s relationship.

In a new interview, the 24-year-old actor said their chemistry is much like Chuck and Blair on Gossip Girl.

“I always say, it’s a bit like Marmite, you love it or you hate it, and that’s Sebastian,” he told TV Guide. “I think it can be similar to something like Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) in Gossip Girl — that kind of tense friction kind of relationship, but highly entertaining.”

“Sebastian’s initial attraction to Lizzie, that initial spark, does come from a past lover that Sebastian has had,” Thomas added. “So that’s a little bit of his background… I do think it is genuine, and I do also think that Lizzie does remind him of a past lover. She’s very intriguing to him, and he wants to know more about who this girl is.”

In the new episode, “This Year Will Be Different”, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) is determined to move forward with her new life alone, and her latest hunt leads her on a collision course with the past she’s been desperately trying to leave behind.

Meanwhile, on their first day back in school, Landon’s (Aria Shahghasemi) newfound status as the popular guy leads to tensions with Josie (Kaylee Bryant). Elsewhere, as MG (Quincy Fouse) contemplates telling Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) how he feels about her, the arrival of a mysterious vampire puts a wrench into his plan.

Finally, as Alaric (Matthew Davis) gets settled into his new role at Mystic Falls High School, the students of the Salvatore School meet their new headmaster, Professor Vardemus (Alexis Denisof).

Legacies airs TONIGHT, October 17th @ 9PM ET/PT on The CW.

The holidays are coming to The Salvatore Boarding School for the Young & Gifted on Legacies – but probably not the holiday you would associate with the school – Christmas!

Showrunner Julie Plec spoke to TV Guide about the upcoming episode centering around the festive holiday.

“We’re very excited about it. It’s hilarious. It’s super Christmas-y,” she shared. “All I can say about it is it’s not actually set on Christmas. So you have to say, ‘What is making the Christmas spirit supernaturally infect Mystic Falls?’”

During San Diego Comic-Con earlier this summer, Julie and exec producer Brett Matthews shared that an Evil Santa Claus episode was in the works, and teased that Quincy Fouse‘s MG would be “extremely troubled if all of his friends are plotting to kill Santa.”

In “I’ll Never Give Up Hope”, after discovering that there may be a way out of Malivore, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) becomes more determined than ever to find her way back to Mystic Falls. Alaric, who is still reeling after being voted out as headmaster by the honor council, continues looking into the mysterious night Malivore was destroyed.

Elsewhere, as the students leave for summer vacation, Landon stays behind to keep an eye on Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith), while MG (Quincy Fouse) heads to Atlanta to spend time with Kaleb’s (guest star Chris Lee) family. Finally, while Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) spends the summer in Europe with Caroline, Josie searches for answers about the mysterious ascendant that Alaric was keeping from them.

Now that Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) is gone, showrunner Julie Plec dishes on how the rest of the characters are doing in her absence.

In the season one finale, Hope jumped into Malivore, erasing her from everyone’s memory.

“Much like time travel, if you ask too many questions and apply too much logic, the entire system breaks down, so what we had to do was apply just enough logic in what we showed with Landon’s mom and all the other characters that disappeared into Malivore, which is that even though they are forgotten, the experience and the wisdom learned from them is not gone,” Julie shared with EW.

“So Landon is a more confident person now than he was when he started, even though Hope has been erased from his memory. So these are characters that had all those experiences last year. It’s just that the blanks have been filled in for them by their subconscious so they don’t realize that there was one person who’s responsible for all of it,” she continued. “So as such, they don’t realize that what they’re missing is that person and that while everything seems fine and their life seems good, there’s a hole that they don’t know how to fill because they can’t identify it. It’s been fun and it just provides all kinds of opportunity for great new tension and romantic shifts and big life moves and all those things.

If you missed the news, Thomas Doherty is going to be playing a new vampire on Legacies in the new season and Jenny Boyd is letting us know all about him.

Speaking with TV Guide, the actress says that Lizzie is very much about Sebastian.

“Lizzie develops feelings for him very quickly,” she shared. “He’s kind of an Ian Somerhalder type — smoldery, old-school guy — so that’s definitely her jam… He’s a little bit ‘Smolderhalder’ 2.0, you know? He’s got that vibe, that really sexy, just impossibly beautiful human type of thing going on.”

Showrunner Julie Plec added that Thomas’ character is an “old, old, old-world vampire” who was “desiccated when he was 17 in maybe the 15th century and now wakes up in the 21st century and realizes that all the rules of being a vampire have changed and that he does not fit in into this very modern world.”

Don’t worry though, Lizzie is there to help him out.

“Lizzie obviously has strong opinions about everything, so we’ll see how that plays out in their relationship,” Jenny adds. “It’s kind of that line between lust and hate at times, maybe. You know this thing of, like, ‘Oh, I really like you, but I don’t like that I like you.’”

Legacies premieres on Thursday on The CW.
