Louis Tomlinson Talks New Single 'Just Like You' & The Meaning Behind It

Louis Tomlinson just dropped a surprise new single “Just Like You” and is opening up about the story behind the track.

In an upcoming interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 tonight, the British musician reveals that the song is “very autobiographical and obviously about me.”

“The fans have seen so much and got to know us [One Direction] so well, but I’ve never really had a chance to be as honest like that with music, so that was really refreshing,” he continues, pointing out that he wanted to be as real and open as he could.

“The important thing to me was that, I’ve read a lot of press stories about myself and the press and everyone naturally puts this spin on fame and celebrity, and I kinda just wanted to show the other side of it,” he says. “I’ve kind of struggled with the concept of fame and it’s hard for anyone to get your head around.”

Louis adds, “It was important to me to write a song that could humanize me as much as possible and that the fans can really feel I’m just like them. Honest and vulnerable and real.”

Be sure to tune into his full interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 TONIGHT @ 8PM PT/12AM ET.

My next single will be a bit later this year but I wanted to share this with you now,” Louis said in a statement. “I’m really attached to ‘Just Like You,’ which is all about this view of celebrities that we’re impenetrable and almost not human, but fundamentally we all have the same problems. Louis Tomlinson Gave PRETTYMUCH the Best Advice

PRETTYMUCH is stepping further and further into the spotlight, so it makes sense that former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson would give his labelmates advice about being in a prominent boy band.

Edwin Honoret, Zion Kuwonu, Nick Mara, Brandon Arreaga, and Austin Porter talked to Pop Shop Podcast about their exchange.

“He told us to just [stick] together and keep each other grounded,” Brandon remembered. “Hold each other down.”

The other members chimed in about the other advice Louis gave them: “He says it gets crazy and he experienced it first-hand.”

PRETTYMUCH also revealed that they are grateful that they didn’t have to rise to fame as they became friends, as One Direction did. They were able to become friends first, which they think is “definitely a good thing.”

Zayn Malik Says His Friendship With Louis Tomlinson Has Changed: 'We Were a Lot Closer'

Zayn Malik Says His Friendship With Louis Tomlinson Has Changed: 'We Were a Lot Closer'

Louis Tomlinson gave an interview in August opening up about rekindling his frayed friendship with Zayn Malik after he left the band.

Now, Zayn is taking the opportunity to do the same.

“We’re in touch, everything is on a civil level,” the “Dusk Till Dawn” singer told Us Weekly of his relationship with his former band-mate.

“It’s not the way it used to be, obviously we were a lot closer because we were together the entire time, spending 24 hours a day in the band and now we’re not, so we’re living our own lives, we’re all growing as individual men and we still keep in touch and check in with each other not as much as we used to.”

While that might disappoint some One Direction fans, it’s totally normal that they would be closer when working together every day than in the years afterwards.

We appreciate Zayn‘s candor.
