The 16-year-old actor stars as Ray on the new ABC comedy Speechless, which airs Wednesdays @ 8:30PM.
“Speechless has opened so many people’s eyes to what life is like in families with a special needs child, but from an entertaining, funny and real place,” Mason told us. “Getting to be a part of this show is amazing for me as an actor and also as a person who is helping break down misconceptions and educate people.”
Check out 10 fun facts Mason told us:
1. I am a direct descendant of John A. Roebling, the designer of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City and inventor of the wire cable used on suspension bridges.
2. I had a relative die on the Titanic. His character wasn’t in the movie, but several of the people he was traveling with were.
3. There are four kids in my family. Three of us, including me, are left-handed.

Speechless centers on Maya DiMeo (Minnie Driver), a mom on a mission who will do anything for her husband, Jimmy, and kids Ray, Dylan, and J.J., her eldest son with cerebral palsy. As Maya fights injustices both real and imagined, the family works to make a new home for themselves and searches for just the right person to give J.J. his “voice”.

Mason Cook has joined the upcoming ABC pilot, Speechless.
The 15-year-old actor, who you may recognize from Spy Kids: All the Time in the World and The Haunting Hour, will play Ray Dimeo, the youngest of three sons in the show.
Ray is described as “anxious, very smart, loves astronomy. Ray supports his mother as she struggles and tilts at windmills; he just wishes she could bust a few fewer asses along the way.”
And despite his sensitivity to his brother, JJ’s, needs, he tires of the endless search for the perfect school. Quite certain he’s always right, Ray views himself as “the only adult in the family” – an assertion to which the actual adults who birthed him sometimes object.
Speechless centers on parents Maya and Jimmy, and their sons Ray, Ethan and JJ; the latter being a kid with special needs who is non-verbal, though his written communications are smart, wickedly funny and occasionally unprintable.
Close but chaotic, the family exists in a chronic whirlwind created by mom Maya, an outspoken (to put it mildly) woman who’ll do anything to give JJ a better shot at what he needs. But she’s got two other kids — not to mention an adoring husband — who have needs, too.
