“I’ve said this before, that we didn’t break up because anything bad happened or because there wasn’t love or friendship,” the 26-year-old actress shared to E! News. “I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he’s great and I care about him. And that didn’t change. Yes, we’re professional and that’s fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now.”
She added about Ian‘s wedding, “When I heard about the wedding, I thought it was beautiful. They look happy and I am happy, and so I don’t see why there should be a problem with that… Of course, we’re on a teen drama show, everyone’s going to look for drama…I just ignore it.” Click inside to watch the interview! Nina Dobrev takes the cover of Self magazine’s latest issue, which will hit newsstands on May 26.
The 26-year-old actress talked all about The Vampire Diaries and what is up next for her in terms of life and auditioning. Here’s what she said:
On leaving The Vampire Diaries: “I’ve loved working on this show. It’s been such a crazy, awesome adventure, and I’ve been surrounded by so many people who I consider family. I know this is a new exciting step in the right direction for me, but it’s going to be so strange not to be with them.”
On preparing to audition for roles: “I’m ready to put up that fight again. I’m excited to put up that fight.”
On a roadtrip she’s taking before getting ready to hit the pavement: “There are no hotel reservations, no real plans. Just six people, three vehicles, two in each car.”
In “I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime”, It’s Alaric and Jo’s wedding day and Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) do their best to help a stressed out Jo with the last minute preparations.
After uncovering some life-changing news that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has been keeping from him, Stefan (Paul Wesley) takes his brother on a road trip to give him some perspective on his future with Elena.
Elsewhere, when Caroline (Candice Accola) returns to Mystic Falls after dealing with the fallout of her humanity-free rampage, she begins making amends with her friends and comes to a realization about her and Stefan’s prospects of being together.
“I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime” airs TONIGHT, Thursday, May 7th @ 8PM ET/PT on The CW.
Fans are still upset over Nina Dobrev‘s decision to leave the cast of The Vampire Diaries and now the show’s co-creator Julie Plec is opening up about how she tried to get the actress to stay longer.
“She was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama,” Julie said on the KCRW podcast last week.
“This is taking the personal out of it completely, from a storytelling point of view it’s a great challenge. As writers in the room we’re finding it very rejuvenating. Just on a strictly creative exercise level,” she added.
“Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done and we spent a little bit of time trying to talk her out of it. [We'd say,] ‘Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!’” she explained. “And she finally was like, ‘No, I signed up for six years. I’ve done my six years. I’m ready to move on and spread my wings.’”
ARE YOU SAD that Nina Dobrev is leaving The Vampire Diaries?

Meanwhile, when Enzo (Michael Malarkey) realizes Lily (Annie Wersching) is on a dangerous downward spiral, he asks Stefan (Paul Wesley) to help intervene before it’s too late.
Lastly, fed up with the supernatural threats that plague their town, Matt (Zach Roerig) takes his frustrations out on Tyler (Michael Trevino), while Alaric considers a life-changing piece of advice.
