Madelaine Petsch Dishes on 'Riverdale's Strong Females

Madelaine Petsch plays one of our favorite characters on television right now.

The Riverdale star chatted with NKD magazine about portraying Cheryl Blossom on the hit CW show, calling her the most insecure character of them all.

“She gives off this facade that she runs the school but in reality she’s beyond broken and beyond insecure,” she says. “I love her attitude and I love her one-liners and her fire, and I think those things kind of go hand in hand right now.”

Madelaine also talked about how the show is represent super strong female characters.

“I think that?s so rare for high school TV!” she adds. “Like oh my goodness I can’t stress this enough. When I was a kid I thought it was mandatory for me to have a boyfriend because [Gossip Girl's] Blair Waldorf had a boyfriend.”

Madelaine continues, “Every high school show the main girls always had like boyfriends and drama and on my show we don’t like we don’t focus on that. It’s not about being in relationships, it’s about letting these characters develop and letting these women find out about themselves.”
