13 Reasons Why's Tommy Dorfman Wants To Keep Telling Meaningful Stories

No one really expected 13 Reasons Why to be a huge hit when it came out on Netflix, but it is; and it’s seriously changing lives.

It’s definitely changed Tommy Dorfman‘s, who plays Ryan Shaver in the series.

“I wasn’t,” he revealed with DaMan magazine about taking on the tough stories told. “It’s important that these stories are told and I knew that the writers of the show would do it truthfully.”

Tommy adds, “You’re seeing what actually happens when someone dies by suicide, or in a car crash. It’s the truth, and the truth isn’t always pretty or shiny or comfortable, but it’s necessary.’

With the impact of 13 Reasons Why, Tommy says that his entire purpose of acting has changed too.

“It’s changed my work ideals in that I’m not longer interested in meaningless work,” he shared. “By that, I mean I want to continue to be a part of shows and movies that actually have a purpose.”
