'Stranger Things' Season 3 Will Be Set During The Summer

We know you’re craving all the details you can get about Stranger Things season three – good thing we have them!

EP Shawn Levy spoke with Variety at the PaleyFest event over the weekend about the forthcoming season, which will be eight episodes long.

First thing, the season won’t be set during school time.

“Season 3 is set in the summer, so right out of the gate that’s a big difference,” he shared. “The first two seasons were very much school-based.”

He added, “This is that time of year where it’s not about school, it’s about the swimming pool and campfires and parades and Fourth of July and fireworks, so there’s kind of a poppy fun to season 3 that’s really enjoyable before things inevitably turn super dark.”

Shawn did confirm that the Shadow Monster is still around too.

“The Shadow Monster is still lurking up there out there in the Upside Down,” he says. “He is determined to find a way to achieve his goals. The dogs didn’t get it done in season two, so he’s going to have some new strategies.”

Stranger Things season three will start production next month.
