'Supergirl' Will Tackle Racism In Tonight's New Episode

James (Mehcad Brooks) gets a hug from Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) in this new still from tonight’s all-new Supergirl.

In “The Fanatical”, someone will learn that James is really Guardian and threatens to expose James if he doesn’t do what they ask, which causes him to contemplate what it means to be a black vigilante without a mask in America.

“It has a lot to do with race in America,” Mehcad shared with EW about the episode, “And how he might be perceived as a black vigilante. Not just being unmasked, but also having to deal with the suspected scrutiny that he’s assuming he’ll be met with because of his past experiences.”

Elsewhere in the episode, the key to saving Sam (Odette Annable) from Reign could be in a journal.

Supergirl airs TONIGHT, May 21st @ 8PM ET/PT on The CW.
